This chant in English is a translation from the Pali canon. The setting is that used at Amaravati Buddhist Monastery in England. It is an aspiration to radiate the four qualities of the Divine Abidings - lovingkindness (metta), compassion (karuna), empathetic joy (mudita, here translated as 'gladness'), and equanimity (upekkha) to all sentient beings wherever they are.

I will abide pervading one quarter with a mind imbued with
lovingkindness ... compassion ... gladness ... equanimity ...
Likewise the second, likewise the third, likewise the fourth;
So above and below, around and everywhere
and to all as to myself.
I will abide pervading the all-encompassing world with a mind imbued with
lovingkindness ... compassion ... gladness ... equanimity ...
abundant, exalted, immeasurable, without hostility and without ill-will
